CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT
Local and Traveling Opportunities
Our client, an established family-owned construction and development company, is hiring experienced Construction Superintendents for two opportunities:
- Local Superintendent: Oversees projects throughout the Chicagoland area with only occasional short-duration travel.
- Traveling Superintendent: Oversees projects nationwide and must be comfortable traveling for extended periods based on project needs.
These are excellent opportunities for hands-on field leaders who can independently manage sophisticated commercial projects from mobilization through completion. Ideal candidates will have experience with high-end retail tenant improvements, restaurant buildouts, hospitality, or experiential commercial projects.
POSITION OPTIONS
Local Construction Superintendent:
- Must currently reside in or be established within the Chicagoland area
- Projects are primarily local to Chicago
- Only rare, short-duration travel may be required
- Base salary: $100,000–$120,000
- Performance bonus eligibility
Traveling Construction Superintendent:
- Must be willing to travel regularly to projects throughout the country
- Nice one bedroom corporate housing in project city as opposed to motels or low quality hotels.
- Base salary: $95,000–$110,000
- $75 daily per diem
- $550 monthly vehicle allowance when using a personal vehicle
- Gas reimbursement while working in the project city
- GSA mileage reimbursement when driving between the employee’s home city and project location
- Opportunity for project-based bonuses for exceptional performance
- Superintendents remain paid between project assignments
- Annual bonus based on company performance

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee assigned construction projects from mobilization through successful completion
- Direct and supervise subcontractors, consultants, and vendors on a daily basis
- Coordinate manpower, inspections, schedules, materials, and site activities
- Maintain responsibility for jobsite safety, quality control, and project scheduling
- Confirm that subcontractors comply with their contracted scopes of work
- Review project drawings, RFIs, material submittals, and shop drawings
- Identify conflicts between project plans and actual field conditions
- Coordinate inspections with local jurisdictions and ensure sites are inspection-ready
- Enforce safety requirements, building codes, permits, and quality standards
- Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings
- Maintain daily logs, progress reports, safety reports, job-status reports, and three-week look-ahead schedules
- Communicate project progress and field issues to project managers, clients, architects, and consultants
- Ensure deficiencies and punch-list items are corrected promptly
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professionally managed jobsite
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of three years of verifiable experience as a Commercial Construction Superintendent
- Required experience with high-end retail tenant improvements and restaurant buildouts
- Demonstrated ability to manage commercial projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
- Strong knowledge of construction trades, sequencing, quality control, and jobsite safety
- Proficiency with Procore and construction scheduling software; Outbuild experience is preferred
- Familiarity with PlanGrid, Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook
- Excellent organization, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Strong and stable employment history; candidates with frequent job changes will not be considered
- Must currently reside in or be established within the Chicagoland area
- Must be able to provide a detailed five-year project list
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Additional consideration will be given to candidates with experience in:
- Luxury or high-end commercial construction
- Complex restaurant buildouts
- High-end retail tenant improvements
- Hospitality construction
- Multifamily new construction or rehabilitation projects
